"Mozart Mozart": Filming Begins for Captivating ARD/ORF Premium Series in the Baltics
For over 250 years, the Mozart myth has captivated audiences worldwide, not just classical music fans. The series "Mozart Mozart" (working title) retells this success story. The modern adaptation, which takes creative liberties with historical material, offers an original and pointed perspective on the Mozart phenomenon – loud, colorful, and emotional. And with a cast that is as glamorous as it is excellent.

The main roles of the sibling pair Maria Anna and Amadeus are played by young stars Havana Joy ("Love Sucks") and Eren M. Güvercin ("Druck"). Amadeus's future wife Constanze Weber is portrayed by Sonja Weißer ("Maxton Hall – The World Between Us"), while Peter Kurth ("Babylon Berlin") appears as Leopold Mozart. Other leading roles feature Philipp Hochmair ("The Wannsee Conference") as Emperor Joseph II, Verena Altenberger ("The Best of All Worlds") as Marie Antoinette, Eidin Jalali as Antonio Salieri, as well as Lisa Vicari ("Next Level"), Annabelle Mandeng and Jan Krauter. Filming under the direction of Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim ("Druck", "Die Zweiflers") will continue until June 11 in Lithuania and Latvia. Simon Vu serves as cinematographer. The series is expected to premiere in December 2025 with six episodes in the ARD Media Library and on Das Erste.
The story:
In "Mozart Mozart", Maria Anna Mozart gets the stage she deserves. She has always stood in the shadow of her brother Amadeus. He is the superstar. She is "just" his sister, "the Nannerl," despite being just as exceptional a musical talent as her brother. However, when Amadeus crashes and can no longer perform, the financial future of "Mozart, Inc." is suddenly at stake – and with it, Maria Anna's personal freedom. To save Amadeus's career and herself, Maria Anna reluctantly assumes the role of her brother. Soon she finds herself entangled in a web of royal intrigues, at the center of which stands the very man who has fallen head over heels in love with her: Antonio Salieri.

ARD (led by WDR), ORF, and Story House Pictures tell this story with playful wit, musical creativity, and imaginative precision. The Mozart performances in late 18th century Vienna were no less spectacular than those of Beyoncé or Lady Gaga today. The costumes by Emmy-nominated Daiva Petrulyte ("Sisi", "Chernobyl") and the set design by Algis Garbaciauskas ("Sisi") are as striking as the characters themselves. The music by film composer Jessica De Rooij ("Sisi") and electronic duo ÄTNA gives Maria Anna's character a unique emotional profile. Because even if the history books can stay on the shelf for "Mozart/Mozart", the series reveals deeper truths about the search for freedom, identity and self-realization, about talent and destiny – and above all about the love of music.
